Status Update

So one week to go until landing, and two weeks since the publication of this.

It’s been a bit of a busy time to say the least, and over the last few days I have had a lot of people asking me how I am getting on with my relocation.

My initial reasoning for trying to create an online buzz around my move was a genuine belief that the best way to demonstrate my skills in this space is to put my money where my mouth is.

Although I am essentially dealing with brand ‘me’ the strategy tactics and outcomes run along very similar lines to any the form of promotion.  In fact it is a really useful exercise to gain clarity of purpose as the whole activity is nothing if not self contained!

I often get questioned about the validity of social media in relation to its ability to demonstrate quantifiable measurement. In fact it’s very simple; the easiest way to measure effectiveness is through the measurement of distinct and pre-determined goals of engagement.

Marketing through participation means there may not be an immediate financial ROI which organisations often find frustrating. However, setting objectives of engagement can easily reveal the effectiveness of embedding yourself in these spaces, and therefore partaking in the conversations that are happening there.

So how does that equate back to me? Well the idea was to create involvement, buzz and ultimately securing that dream job down under.  How’s it going? Well I am pretty happy, blog stats have increased by over 1000%, my twitter account is edging towards triple figures, I have had over twenty new LinkedIn connections, and pick up has been great.

But what does this mean in real terms? Well I have certainly had some very interesting conversations with people who I may not otherwise have come into contact with, and my calendar for next week (jet lag withstanding) is very full.

I’m not quite there yet, but Im backing myself for the desired result, and I think this answers the question of effectiveness of measurement. Whilst it may be difficult to quantify in terms of column inches or broadcast coverage, the fact that I have not only got people talking about me- but I am party to,  and able to influence those conversations proves I am at least on the right track

So feel free to get involved and spread the word. Roll on next week!
