Firstly welcome to all the new followers to this site, it’s been nearly 12 hours now since this was published and the response so far has been fantastic, despite the majority of my target audience being asleep!
A little cheesy, maybe- but a CV in Google maps seemed to me to be an ideal way to add some originality and cut-through to get people to take notice of my qualifications and experience.
Its not an easy job to travel half way round the world to find a job, and the beauty of digital is that I can conduct what is essentially an advocacy campaign sat here in London. The hit rates for the blog have been great, up by nearly 100 % day on day, and @jobdownunder is gaining momentum despite only being a week or so old.
I have believed for a while now that personal branding in the online space is just as important as business or product branding. In a recruitment marketplace that despite hype is still pretty tight, I know as someone who has hired recently, make or break may only be a Google search away.
But as with any campaign, strategy tactics and reach are important factors, but it’s the objectives that count and in my case it’s finding the right job. I am happy to say things are looking pretty positive so far with a couple of invitations to chat, so hopefully I can prove this was all worthwhile.
As ever, watch this space to find out more…..

Hi Toby,
Just a quick note to say “love your work”.
Unfortunately I’m not in a position to offer you a role as I’m just starting out myself as a freelance marketing comms specialist in Melbourne. Talking of Melbourne, haven’t you heard that’s it the third most liveable city in the world according to the Economist Intelligence Unit’s livability survey in 2010 – (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World's_most_livable_cities#World.27s_Most_Livable_Cities) ? Sydney is way down the list at number seven!
Why would you want to reloacte there?
Just kidding, I lived in Sydney myself for five years. I wish you luck with your search.
Catherine
Catherine,
Thank you for the support, very greatfull.
Best of luck with your own endeavours.
Toby
What a neat idea! It would be more effective if the person had a travelling job to mark the places the world.
Relocation is not very easy, especially, if you are from Cultural And Linguistic Diversity background, like me. But I see that digital has blended us together. All the best.
Cheers!
